The Forensic Monitor tracks and monitors persons who are designated as NGRI (Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity) or IST-U-CJ (Incompetent to Stand Trial-Unrestorable-Under Criminal Court Jurisdiction) on conditional release commitment. The Forensic Monitor is the liaison between the individual, the court, the community, and the hospital, and is knowledgeable about the criminal justice system, court proceedings, forensic statues, hospital procedures, community mental health treatment priorities, and, most importantly, risk management and public safety. In addition, persons being released from prison who are in need of follow-up mental health services are linked to the CPST Forensic Monitor so that coordination of care can occur. The CPST Forensic Monitor also works with persons who have been charged with a felony or misdemeanor offenses through the Common Pleas and Municipal Courts to engage the person in services so that the risk of re-offending is lowered.
